Target Beauty Box – “Summer Hair and Skin Care” is one of two boxes Target sold in May!

Target Beauty Box is a themed monthly box of products you may find in the Target beauty and wellness aisles. Items usually come in travel- or sample-sizes, although full-size products occasionally get included. This isn’t a traditional subscription; boxes are one-time purchases in-store or online.

This box is for… stocking up on essentials for your next beach vacation!

Cost: $7 per box (This box is currently sold out.)

FIRST IMPRESSION

Target Summer Hair and Skin Box with products

I always appreciate Target boxes. They’re usually very cute and sturdy. I’ve reused past boxes to store my crafts, like polymer clay. Very useful!

At first glance, this looks like a promising box. I love the sizes of these products. I get a lot of full-sized items from other subscriptions, which is a great value, but they take forever to use up. For someone who likes trying new things, these travel-sized items are really nice!

Subscriptionado paid for this box.

ON TO THE ITEMS!

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen

CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen – SPF 30

Size: 0.17 fl oz (Full size: 1.7 fl oz)

RV: $1.50 (Full size: $14.99)

I was confused at first because the box insert said that this product was supposed to be the CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face – SPF 50. Instead, I got this Ultra Light Moisturizing Face lotion. I’m not complaining, though!

At first, I was a bit worried about how this would feel on my skin because it’s a lot runnier than I’m used to. But, after I rubbed it into my skin, I was so impressed! Like, wow! My skin just drank this moisturizer up. It didn’t feel greasy, nor did it leave a residue. It doesn’t have a fragrance, either, so it’s perfect for those days when I can’t stand strong scents. I don’t often buy beauty products nowadays just because I receive so many from subscription boxes, but I think I might get the full-size version of this!

eritage Store Rosewater Spray

Heritage Store Rosewater Spray

Size: 2 fl oz

RV: $4.79

This product has only two (2!) ingredients: purified water and hydroessential rose. I don’t know about you, but I’m always really happy to see a short list of ingredients! This is quite possibly the shortest list I’ve ever seen on a packaged beauty product. Even so, the scent is strong when it is first applied. After a few minutes, it dissipates. I wasn’t sure if it was just because I get used to the scent, but other people can’t really smell it on me, either.

You can use this rosewater spray on your face or hair. I prefer it on the hair, especially on Day 2 hair that needs a little pick-me-up!

Biore Charcoal, Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

Biore Charcoal, Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

Size: 1 strip (Full size: 6 strips)

RV: $1.00 (Full size: $5.99)

I used to live for these Biore nose strips when I was in high school. There was something so satisfying about peeling these off and seeing how much it “cleans” my pores…if you’ve ever used this kind of product, you know what I mean!

Aside from the nostalgia, I’m glad that I received this when I did. As the weather warms up, my pores tend to look more enlarged from the heat, sweat, and excess oil production. It was oh-so-gratifying to see my pores get cleared of the icky stuff.

HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Packet

HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Packet

Size: 1.75 fl oz (Full size: 12 fl oz)

RV: $0.70 (Full size: $4.79)

I’ve been wanting to get some hair masks for a while, so this was another serendipitous product. Usually, I have to be really careful with Argan oil because the scent is one of my triggers for migraines. This one is actually really lovely – it is a light, sugary scent.

I have fine hair down to my waist, but I was able to get 2 uses out of this packet. It was not the best deep conditioner I’ve ever used, but I think it did an OK job.  It brought some life back into my damaged hair, especially the ends.

COLAB Original Dry Shampoo

COLAB Original Dry Shampoo

Size: 1.6 fl oz (Full size: 6.7 fl oz)

RV: $1.31 (Full size: $5.49)

Ah, the dry shampoo. A staple product in many beauty boxes $15 or less. While I wasn’t excited that to receive another dry shampoo, I don’t really mind getting another one. I’m down to washing my hair every other day to minimize damage to the ends of my hair, so I use dry shampoo every other day.

My current favorite is the amika Perk Up dry shampoo, something I received in a past FabFitFun box. Is this COLAB product comparable? Hmm…not really. I mean, it’s a decent product. It doesn’t leave a white cast. I daresay it even smells better than the amika product. But my hair doesn’t feel as soft, and it doesn’t look as polished with this COLAB than it does with the amika dry shampoo.

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Soft Waves Sea Salt Spray with a Tropical Banana fragrance

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Soft Waves Sea Salt Spray with a Tropical Banana fragrance

Size: 2 fl oz (Full size: 8 fl oz)

RV: $1.20 (Full size: $4.79)

This product smells really good to me, but I don’t like the way it makes my hair feel. Unfortunately, it makes my hair super dry and clumpy, and when I run my fingers over my hair, it feels like a residue comes off on my hands. Pretty disappointing, as I’ve had high hopes for this product. I need a good spray so I can have “beach hair” since I’m not sure how often (if ever) I’ll visit the beach this summer!

Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer

Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer

Size: 1 fl oz (Full size: 6 fl oz)

RV: $2.00 (Full size: $11.99)

I received this product in the April 2020 Allure Beauty Box. The labels are just slightly different, but the product is the same. With these jack-of-all-trades kinds of products, I find that they’re not spectacular at any one particular feature. However, I think this product does a pretty good job at what it claims to do, which makes it perfect for travel when I don’t want to carry too many things.

FINAL IMPRESSION

Target Beauty Box – Summer Hair and Skin Care was a solid box. As expected, a lot of these are going to come in handy for travel or for post-workouts.

Favorite Item: CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen – SPF 30

Highest Value Item: Heritage Store Rosewater Spray

THE BREAKDOWN

These are the retail values of the products I received:

  • CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen – SPF 30: $1.02
  • Heritage Store Rosewater Spray: $4.79
  • Biore Charcoal, Deep Cleansing Pore Strips: $1.00
  • HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner Packet: $0.70
  • COLAB Original Dry Shampoo: $1.31
  • Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Soft Waves Sea Salt Spray with a Tropical Banana fragrance: $1.20
  • Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer $2.00

Total Value: $12.49. That’s about 1.7x the cost of the box. This is a bit lower than I expected from a Target box.

At $7 per box, it’s like I paid $1 per item. I think that’s still a pretty good deal for the sizes of most of these products.

IS THE TARGET BEAUTY BOX SUMMER HAIR AND SKIN CARE STILL AVAILABLE?
