Birchbox Subscription Box Review – February 2020

Subscriptionado is supported by readers like you! If you purchase through my referral/affiliate links, I may receive a form of compensation. Read the full disclaimer here.

Subscription: Birchbox

What to expect: Birchbox is a monthly box that sends out makeup and skincare products.  They are mostly deluxe sample sizes, although they sometimes add full-sized items. There are a lot of options each month as to what you’ll receive. You can opt for a curated box, or you can choose one product while the rest of the box is a surprise, or trade your box in for their featured full-size product, or swap your box for points in their shop.

Cost: BoxyCharm base box is $25 a month. Each quarter, you can upgrade your base box to the BoxyLuxe upgrade, which is an additional $24.99. BoxyCharm Premium is a separate monthly subscription for $35 per month. Subscribe through this link!

FIRST IMPRESSION

This is an adorable box! I love the maze pattern, and the color combo is fresh for a winter box.

ON TO THE ITEMS!

Air Repair Complexion-Boosting Moisturizer

Size: 0.24 oz (Full size: 2 oz.)

RV: $2.76 (Full size: $23)

This is technically a face cream, but I use it for my hands. It’s the turn of the season, which is always tough for my sensitive skin. This one works pretty great for on-the-go moisturizing. My day-to-day purse is tiny, so I’m always grateful to have products small enough for me to carry without taking up too much space!

Davines MOMO Moisturizing Shampoo

Size: 2.5 fl oz (Full size: 8.45 fl oz)

RV: $8.58 (Full size: $29)

Wow, this scent is so unique in a shampoo. It’s like lemons and cut grass! It makes me nostalgic for summer. This is made with yellow melon extract, and it makes me want to seek other products with this ingredient. It’s so fresh!

Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint – Sweet Potato

Size: 0.1 fl oz (Full size: 0.27 fl oz)

RV: $2.95 (Full size: $7.99)

This tinted balm is another product with an awesome ingredient: sweet potato pigment! It’s 100% natural, fragrance-free, and additive-free. Another great item to add to my tiny purse!

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Size: 1 fl oz (Full size: 8.5 fl oz)

RV: $5.41 (Full size: $46)

Oribe has great quality hair care products, so I’m excited to get one in this box! This texturizing spray smells really lovely. It also gives my fine hair some much-needed life.

The Beauty Crop Glow Milk Liquid Highlighter – Just Dew It

Size: 0.17 oz (Full size: 1.69 oz)

RV: $1.96 (Full size: $19.50)

How darling is this packaging??? I want to keep this just for the package alone, but I know I’ll be handing it off to a friend. My face already has a hard time combating shine, so I don’t need extra help from makeup products like this. So cute, though!

Davines MOMO Moisturizing Conditioner

Size: 0.4 fl oz (Full size: 8.45 oz)

RV: $1.56 (Full size: $33)

I’m not a fan of packets in subscription boxes, and I’m especially disappointed that this conditioner was sent as one when the shampoo came in a bottle. It just doesn’t make any sense to me because the shampoo is clearly sized for travel, and there is enough product in there for a week’s worth of use. This conditioner packet is only two uses, tops. This one’s a huge miss for me.

FINAL IMPRESSION

There were some hits and some misses in this box. Overall, it was just OK for me. Aside from Oribe, I’m new to the brands sent this month, so I’m glad to try some new products.

THE BREAKDOWN

Air Repair Complexion-Boosting Moisturizer: $2.76

Davines MOMO Moisturizing Shampoo: $8.58

Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint – Sweet Potato: $2.95

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: $5.41

The Beauty Crop Glow Milk Liquid Highlighter – Just Dew It: $1.96

Davines MOMO Moisturizing Conditioner: $1.56

Total: $23.22

At $15 per box, you’re paying $2.50 per item. I wish the highlighter and conditioner were larger samples so that the value would be there.
