Birchbox Review – April 2020

Subscriptionado is supported by readers like you! If you purchase through my referral/affiliate links, I may receive a form of compensation. Read the full disclaimer here.

Birchbox Beauty Box is a monthly beauty subscription box. Items usually include deluxe-sized makeup, skincare, and hair care products, although the occasional full-size item can show up! Read on for my Birchbox review!

There are many options available each month. You can:

  • Choose one of the products you’ll receive in your box
  • Pick one of their curated boxes
  • Trade your box for a full-size product
  • Exchange your box for points to use in their shop

This box is for…trying out new products before committing to bigger sizes!

Cost: $15 per box. Check out this page for Birchbox coupons!

Subscriptionado paid for this box.

FIRST IMPRESSION

  • Birchbox April 2020 box
  • Floral Birchbox lid and box

The design on this box is just darling! I love Birchbox boxes. Unlike most subscriptions, these are packaged inside sturdier delivery boxes so they are kept in pristine condition. And they’re pretty enough to store photos and trinkets or reuse as gift boxes!

ON TO THE ITEMS!

  • Wilma Schumann Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads

Wilma Schumann Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads

Size: 1 pair (Full size: 5 pairs)

RV: $3.60 (Full size: $18)

My partner got this same pair in his April Birchbox Grooming box, and he liked the one he got so much that he snatched mine! According to him, these are easy to apply and stay in place well. They also feel “nice and cool and relaxing” (his words!). I really wanted to try these out myself, but I guess I’ll let it slide…but just this once!

  • Number 4 Jour d'automne Sugar Texturizing Spray

Number 4 Jour d’automne Sugar Texturizing Spray

Size: 1 fl oz (Full size: 4.9 oz)

RV: $4.49 (Full size: $22)

As an avid user of Ouai for my “beach hair” needs, this product had a lot to live up to. I’ve never used a sugar texturizing spray before, but after using this, I can’t say that I’m a fan. I don’t think this formula agreed with my hair at all. After using it, it left my fine hair a bit clumpy. This spray may work better for someone with thicker strands or maybe straighter hair, but this just wasn’t for me.

NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Blowout Lotion

Size: 1 fl oz (Full size: 4 fl oz)

RV: $3 (Full size: $12)

This. I wish this blowout lotion came in a 20-gallon tub. I love it so much! Nothing I’ve tried so far has worked this well on my dry ends. When I apply it, the ends of my hair transform from straw-like and ratty to hair-commercial shiny. Before I started using this, I thought I needed to just chop off at least 2 inches from my hair because it was getting pretty gross, but this formula has saved me from a quarantine haircut!

  • Art Naturals Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Art Naturals Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Size: 5 mL (Full size: 15 mL)

RV: $4.33 (Full size: $13)

I’m not actually sure what to do with essential oils. I’ve only ever used them in diffusers, so I was confused to receive this in a beauty box. Nevertheless, I don’t mind that I received this. It’s nice to have something unexpected in a beauty box once in a while. I have a particular set of oil diffusers in my home, so I’m not going to be using this for that, but I’m sure I’ll find some other use for it. If you have any tips on how to use this, let me know below!

  • High Beauty high five Cannabis Facial Moisturizer box and tube
  • Box of High Beauty high five Cannabis Facial Moisturizer

High Beauty high five Cannabis Facial Moisturizer

Size: 0.18 oz (Full size: 1.7 oz)

RV: $4.24 (Full size: $40)

This product contains Cannabis sativa seed oil, but it does not have THC or CBD. As a moisturizer, it works well. There was only enough product for me to use this twice, so I can’t attest to any long-term results, but if you’re looking for a thicker cream to use at night, you may want to try this one!

FINAL IMPRESSION

All items in the Birchbox April 2020 box

While this month’s box wasn’t terribly exciting, I quite liked it. I just realized after writing this review that I didn’t receive a makeup product, which I don’t mind at all! Did I like everything that I got this month? Not really, but I am just so in love with the NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Blowout Lotion that all is forgiven!

Favorite Item: NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Blowout Lotion

Highest Value Item: Number 4 Jour d’automne Sugar Texturizing Spray

THE BREAKDOWN

These are the retail values of the products I received:

  • Wilma Schumann Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads: $3.60
  • Number 4 Jour d’automne Sugar Texturizing Spray: $4.49
  • NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Smooth Blowout Lotion: $3
  • Art Naturals Sweet Orange Essential Oil: $4.33
  • High Beauty high five Cannabis Facial Moisturizer: $4.24

Total Value: $19.66. That’s 1.5x the cost of the box. This is actually on the low end of what I’m used to for Birchbox.

I pay annually, which means I pay $13 per box. At that price, it’s like I paid $2.60 per item. I think that’s a pretty good deal for these products!

Is this box still available? No, but as of this publication, I believe you can still sign up for a May box.
