Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly box of beauty samples including makeup, skincare, and haircare. They offer two categories for different demographics: the “Trendsetter” box is aimed at younger subscribers, and “Classic” is for more mature subscribers. Items within each box vary depending on how you answer their beauty profile quiz.

What to expect: This is a review of the Trendsetter box. The items you receive are based on your answers to their beauty profile quiz, so your box may be different than mine! Also, they have a late shipping period compared to other beauty boxes out there, so don’t be surprised if you get your seasonal box at the end of the season.
Cost: $5 per box
FIRST IMPRESSION
Honestly, my first impression when I got this winter box was…um, it’s March??? But when I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked what I saw. The products looked like they’re still useable through the spring and into summer.
ON TO THE ITEMS!
This review is a little different for me. With all my reviews, I usually like to include the retail values of all the items. However, I couldn’t find these items being sold on the Walmart website or anywhere else online. It looks like these particular variations have been discontinued or are no longer being sold in major retail stores.
Avena Moisturizing Lotion Hand & Body
Size: 3.4 fl oz (Full size: 17 oz)
I can’t find this particular Avena lotion at Walmart or elsewhere online, so it might be a discontinued item. Which is a shame because I really like it! It smells really good – like a bar of soap. It has a thin consistency without being watery. This lotion also absorbs quickly and does a pretty good job moisturizing dry patches of skin. I’m bummed that I don’t know where I can find more of this when I run out!
NYX Makeup Crew:
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in California
Size: 0.27 fl oz
NYX Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream in California
Size: 0.22 fl oz
This is another item that I can’t find anywhere. While Walmart still carries other NYX lip creams, this color (California) is likely discontinued. While I would have been OK getting discontinued products, I’m not very happy with the quality of this one. This lip cream felt dry and cakey. I haven’t used the NYX lip cream line before so I’m not sure if this is just how the product applies, but I am unhappy with it.
The top swatch is the “Matte” lip cream, and the bottom is the “Matte Metallic” lip cream. As you can see, both lip creams settled into the wrinkles of my forearm, so you can imagine what it will do to your lips. You would have to use a lip scrub and make sure your lips are immaculate before you apply this, otherwise it will probably highlight any imperfections.
Degree Ultraclear Black + White Antiperspirant
Size: 1 oz
My favorite thing about the Walmart Beauty Box is that I almost always get a travel-sized deodorant. They’re so convenient, and they always get used up throughout the year. This spray has a light, clean scent, like a fresh-from-the-shower smell. It dries quickly and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin. It will find its way into my gym bag or weekender bag sooner or later!
Color Club Nail Lacquer in Take It or Leaf It
Size: 0.5 fl oz
I really like this polish! It’s a gorgeous mauve color that would be perfect for winter (*cough**cough*). That classic nail-polish-scent is quite strong in this one, but it applies well. I only needed one coat!
Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelette
Size: Single Packet (Full size: 21 count)
RV: $ 0.23 (Full size: $4.97)
I’m really not a fan of unnecessary packaging. A single, one-time-use sheet wrapped in its own own non-reusable package is just not for me (nor for the environment). I understand the convenience of this item, but I wish brands would move away from this kind of packaging. As a makeup remover, this towelette does the trick. If I don’t quickly follow up with my regular skincare routine, though, it leaves my face feeling dry.
FINAL IMPRESSION
There are a few items in this box that I actually did like and/or found useful. I know for sure that I’ll be sad when I run out of this Avena product. It seems like I can find other lotions from the same brand on the interwebs, so I might try those. I really like the nail polish, and the deodorant will definitely be used. It’s too bad I can’t give a value breakdown for this box…but hey, I paid $5 bucks for it, so it’s worth it for the three items I liked!
Is this box still available? Check the Walmart Beauty Box site to see which box you’ll receive. Spring boxes start shipping out in April.
