FIRST IMPRESSION
The BoxyLuxe unboxing experience is such a treat! I think I was most excited to open this box out of all the boxes I received this month! There were a lot of great spoilers with tried-and-true brands and brands that I haven’t used before. I also love that I was able to choose two of the products in my box, as well as have a few “surprise” items from a list of possible spoilers.
ON TO THE ITEMS!
Sutra Beauty Mini Ceramic Curling Iron
Size: 0.75” barrel
RV: $50
BoxyLuxe subscribers can choose two of their items each quarter, and this was one of my choices. I haven’t owned a curling iron since high school, but I love wearing loose waves especially in the summer, so I was stoked to get this one! It’s a really simple setup that only has an “On/Off” switch. It doesn’t have a setting for temperature, but the packaging says that the “max” temp is 370F/190C. I’m not sure exactly how long it takes to get up to this temperature, but it gets hot enough to use within a minute!
A lock of my long, fine hair was set in curls within 10 seconds! Even without extra products, the curls loosened to waves…and stayed that way! I even took a little nap with them, and when I got up, my waves were still intact. Awesome!
Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum + Coco Cabana Cream Duo
Size: .84 fl oz each
RV: $15
Sol De Janeiro is not an unfamiliar sight in subscription boxes, but, surprisingly, I’ve never received it. So when I saw these in my box, I literally whooped with glee!
Both of these creams smell heavenly! I’m really impressed with the Coco Cabana Cream in particular. I’m not usually a fan of coconut-scented products because they tend to be too coconut-y. This cream, though, has a more balanced scent, although I can’t really pinpoint exactly what other notes are in there. I love it, though! The sample sizes are generous, too. I can’t wait to throw these in my travel bag!
BoxyCharm Hello, Charmer Palette
Size: 0.30 oz
RV: $39
To be honest, I wasn’t too happy receiving a BoxyCharm-branded item, especially in the Luxe box. In my opinion, beauty boxes shouldn’t include their house-branded items unless it was a “bonus” item that doesn’t affect the total value of the box.
This palette added a $39 value to the box, but is the quality really worth $39? I tried these out, and my results were mixed.
There were some shades that applied beautifully. I particularly liked Exclusive, which is a brown shimmer, and all of the bottom row except for Swipe Up, which is a mess of a glitter eyeshadow. I tried with a brush, an applicator, and even my finger, and I found it hard to get Swipe Up out of the pan. And then when I went to apply it, it just kind of glomped on my eyelid.
If all the eyeshadows had the same quality and pigmentation as Exclusive or Unboxing, I would say this was worth the $39 value. But they didn’t, so, to me, this palette fell short.
PMD Beauty Smart Facial Cleansing Device
RV: $99
This PMD device was the main reason why I signed up for BoxyLuxe. I’ve been looking to buy a facial brush, and as this one retails for $99, it was a no-brainer for me to subscribe to this box!
I have a more detailed review of this product that will be posting soon, but I want to say I’m pretty happy with this cleansing brush. It came in my favorite color, too, which was a major plus! This was definitely my favorite (and most often used) item I received from this box.
NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment
Size: 0.18 fl oz
RV: $25
This is such a gorgeous color! It’s called “Get Up Stand UP (2769)”, and it toes the line between classy and sexy. I’m completely smitten with the pigment and the formula! It applies evenly with one coat. I usually stay away from matte formulas because they tend to be too drying for me, but this one was so comfortable on my lips. My lips didn’t feel dry at all! I think I’m gonna try some other shades in this line.
Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Eye Pencil Duo
Size: .04 oz each
RV: $40
I’ve never used an Elizabeth Mott product before, so I was happy to be introduced to this product. This cruelty-free eye pencil duo was made in South Korea and comes in cute packaging.
This set came with a dark liner (“Raven”) and a light one (“Pearl”). They both are shimmery, but the shimmer in Raven is much more noticeable than in Pearl. I think they’re both gorgeous, though! They feel creamy and apply well. I’ve been on the market for a dark shimmery eye pencil, so I’ll definitely be adding Raven into my rotation!
Deborah Lippman Fire on the Horizon & Can’t Stop the Feeling Nail Polish Set
Size: .27 fl oz each
RV: $19
This set comes with two colors: “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, which is a lovely pink that kind of reminds me of my Barbie dolls in the 90s; and “Fire on the Horizon”, a darker shade, like a tame version of neon pink.
Now, I don’t use a nail polish often, but I was really impressed with this formula! They dry down more matte than what I’m used to, and I’m just so in love with the effect. “Can’t Stop the Feeling” dried down to more of a baby pink, and I don’t think you’ll need more than two coats to get the job done. I think I prefer “Fire on the Horizon”, which dries down much redder than I expected from the bottle, and it only needed just one coat!
Moroccanoil Protect and Prevent Spray
Size: 5.4 fl oz
RV: $30
This was my other pick for this box. I wasn’t too excited about any of the choices for this category, but I had picked the curler for the first one, so I thought I might as well get a hair product. This spray is for color-treated hair, but I don’t color mine, so I’m debating whether to keep this product for myself or hand it off to a friend.
I’m usually wary of products with argan oil because I find the scent too heavy, but this one was surprisingly light!
FINAL IMPRESSION
I’m seriously in love with this box! Everything except the hair spray was a hit for me! My favorite thing about this box is that it came with two beauty tools. As someone who subscribes to a lot of beauty boxes, I’ve got a lot of makeup and skincare products already, so it was refreshing to get tools that I could start using right away instead of waiting until I go through the products I already own.
