Target Beauty Box Review – Sunscreen Queen

Target Beauty Box – Sunscreen Queen is one of two boxes Target released in May 2020!

Target Beauty Box is a themed monthly box of products you may find in the Target beauty and wellness aisles. Items usually come in travel- or sample-sizes, although full-size products occasionally get included. This isn’t a traditional subscription; boxes are one-time purchases in-store or online.

This box is for… stocking up on sunscreens for the summer!

Cost: $7 per box. (This box is currently sold out.)

FIRST IMPRESSION

Target Beauty Box Sunscreen Queen with all products

I use sunscreen year-round (as one should!), so I thought these items at this price was a great value. I got this box when I saw the full-sized RoC item, which, on its own, is already more than twice the cost of the box. Score!

Subscriptionado paid for this box.

ON TO THE ITEMS!

SPF 50 Mineral Lotion

Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen -SPF 50 Mineral Lotion

Size: 1 fl oz (Full size: 5 fl oz)

RV: $2.08 (Full size: $10.39)

As much as I wanted the RoC product, this actually ended up being my favorite item in the box! I find that a lot of sunscreens leave a greasy residue, which is a bummer for my combination skin. This formula dries down matte and works well underneath makeup.

A little goes a long way with this sunscreen. If you put on too much, make sure to really massage it into the skin. Otherwise, it might leave a white cast!

Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray

Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray – SPF 30

Size: 1.75 fl oz (Full size: 6 fl oz)

RV: $4.66 (Full size: $15.99)

I used to use this all the time, especially on the beach. However, I have a friend who told me that these kinds of sunscreen sprays trigger his asthma, so since then, I’ve been careful to only use these when I’m by myself or when I’m super far away from anyone else.

As a sunscreen, it’s alright. It’s a bit more greasy for everyday use, but it’s fine for biking and other outdoor activities. I’m glad that they sent out a travel size rather than a full size.

Bare Republic Mineral Shimmer Holographic Shimmer Stick – SPF 50

Size: 0.3 oz

RV: $8.99

Whoa, this product is shim-mer-ry! It leaves my skin with a very pretty but very obvious sheen of “diamond dust”. Holo sunscreen is definitely a neat concept, but I’m not sure exactly how to use this product. I think it’s way too sparkly for an all-over face application. It’s meant to be used as a beach-friendly makeup, I suppose, which is something I’ve never really thought about.

I love that this is a stick. It makes it easy for strategic applications. It feels good on the skin, too!

La Roche Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk- SPF 60

La Roche Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk- SPF 60

Size: 0.06 fl oz (Full size: 5 fl oz)

RV: $0.43 (Full size: $35.99)

I’m not a fan of receiving foil packets in subscription boxes, but since this box is so cheap, I’ll forgive the inclusion. There wasn’t too much product in this packet, but whatever I was able to get out of it was alright. It was rather thick, but it has a high SPF, which I always appreciate.

RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer - SPF 30

RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer – SPF 30

Size: 1.7 fl oz

RV: $18.69

I’m super happy to get this product! It applies really well and absorbs quickly. It doesn’t have any tacky or oil residue. And it has that classic, powdery smell that beauty products of yesteryear used to have. It kind of reminds me of those times when I was young and playing with my mom’s makeup stuff. Love the nostalgia! Best of all, it’s full size! Always so great for a $7 box!

It’s good to note: this product “expires” in September 2020, so if you got this box, you may want to use this product first!

CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face - SPF 50

CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face – SPF 50

Size: 0.17 fl oz (Full size: 2.5 fl oz)

RV: $1.02 (Full size: $14.99)

Like in the Summer Hair and Skin Care box, this CeraVe product in this box is wrong. In my box insert and on the product description on the website, this is supposed to be the CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen – SPF 30. However, the pictured product on Target’s page – and the product I actually received – is the CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face – SPF 50.

I didn’t like this as much as I did the Ultra-Light Moisturizing lotion I got in the other Target box. It’s much thicker and feels like it sits more on the skin rather than being absorbed. Honestly, I would have rather had another tube of that Ultra-Light Moisturizing lotion.

FINAL IMPRESSION

This is probably my favorite Target Beauty Box to date! I liked most of the products I received, and I think everything will eventually be used. I’m super impressed that we got a full-size RoC product. This would have been my favorite product, but the Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen just edged it out because of the matte finish!

Favorite Item: Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen -SPF 50 Mineral Lotion

Highest Value Item: RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer – SPF 30

THE BREAKDOWN

These are the retail values of the products I received:

  • Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen -SPF 50 Mineral Lotion: $2.08
  • Sun Bum Original Sunscreen Spray – SPF 30: $4.66
  • Bare Republic Mineral Shimmer Holographic Shimmer Stick – SPF 50: $8.99
  • La Roche Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk- SPF 60: $0.43
  • RoC Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer – SPF 30: $18.69
  • CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen – SPF 30: $1.02

Total Value: $35.87.  That’s over 5x the cost of the box!

At $7 per box, it’s like I paid $1.17 per item. I think that’s a great deal for a lot of these items!
