FIRST IMPRESSION
Like most welcome boxes, the Causebox Spring 2020 Welcome Box feels like a great value! It has the Known Supply Weekender Duffle – the big-ticket item in the Fall 2019 box. Last year, I wasn’t a subscriber, so I thought I had missed my chance of owning one of these cute bags. So when I saw that Causebox offered this bag again for the spring Welcome Box, you can guess how quickly I hit that “Add a new subscription” button!
Subscriptionado paid for this box.
ON TO THE ITEMS!
Organic Cotton Haiku Spring Scarf by Bloom in Black & White
RV: $60
With its super-light fabric, this scarf is great for late spring and early summer! It is made with 100% cotton, so it looks and feels great, but is also easy to clean. I can’t tell you how many scarves I’ve ruined by throwing them in the wash without double-checking the labels! 🤦♀️
I love the design, as well! It looks visually interesting but will serve more as an accent rather than a statement piece.
Layered Gem Necklace by FOSTERIE
RV: $42
Subscribers could have received this or the Cybill Earrings Set in Silver by Foxy Originals. From the spoilers, I had been hoping for the earrings, since the necklace didn’t look to be my style. So when I got this in the box, I was a little bummed. It just didn’t look right on me.
On the upside, this necklace has very long chains and a couple of different components I could play with. I dabble a bit in jewelry-making, so I had some tools, beads, and findings lying around. When I saw that I had components that matched this necklace, I got to work to make this piece of jewelry just right for me.
I took this necklace apart. The top part looks great on its own as a choker, so I didn’t do much to it. I more or less chopped up the bottom part and created two delicate bracelets from them. One bracelet has the original bar. For the other, I added a bead that has round stones that match the ones on the choker. So where I had one piece of jewelry that I wasn’t excited about, now I have three pieces that I absolutely love!
Sustainable Grocery Starter Kit by Artisan Direct
Size: Set of 5 bags
RV: $22
While grocery bags aren’t exactly exciting, I am glad I got another set. I have already used my first set from the regular Causebox Spring 2020 box as gift bags or storage bags. These are quite handy! I’m planning on using this new set for travel (whenever we get to do that again). These will be great for separating delicates from larger pieces in my suitcase, as well as for shoes!
CARDEA AUSET CALM Mood Mist
Size: 60 mL
RV: $30
I’m still working on my first CALM Mood Mist from the regular Spring box, so this is going to a friend. I love the complex smell of this mist! This has notes of frankincense and witch hazel – and while, yes, these strong scents would normally trigger a migraine, this is tempered with the softer lavender and bergamot notes. It is very wearable even for someone with a sensitive nose like me!
Weekender Duffel by KNOWN SUPPLY in Terracotta
RV: $120
This is the main reason why I wanted this box! I saw this in the Fall 2019 spoilers. Alas, I didn’t get a chance to sign up before the box had sold out. I had such FOMO that I snagged a couple of weekender bags from Ban.do to make up for it.
Of course, when I saw that this bag would be included in the Welcome box, I knew I couldn’t miss out again! I got the “Terracotta” bag – a rusty orange bag with cream canvas handles. While I love this bag, it’s also smaller than my Ban.do bags, so I might just stick to the ones I bought.
My partner has been looking for a nice-looking canvas weekender bag, but most of the ones marketed “for men” look like military depot overstock, which isn’t his aesthetic. Luckily, orange is his favorite color, so he is happy to claim this for himself!
S’well Water Bottle in Blanc Crocodile
Size: 17 oz
RV: $35
I’m obsessed with water bottles, so this was the other reason why I bought a Welcome box. I love S’well! They work so well at keeping drinks cold during the summer. These bottles claim to keep water cold for 24 hours, which I’ve found to be accurate. It can also keep drinks hot for 12 hours, but I prefer using thermal mugs for hot drinks. I’m even loving the crocodile design – so unique! I’ll be able to spot my bottle quickly if it ever gets jumbled with other water bottles.
Scentuals Rosemary Mint Hand Repair Cream
Size: 100 mL
RV: $8.43
This is the only real disappointment in the box. While I’m happy to see a lotion with the first couple of ingredients as aloe juice and sweet almond oil rather than water or alcohol, I don’t actually like the way this feels on my skin. It doesn’t absorb like some other lotions. Rather, it just kind of sits on top, making my skin feel sticky, leaving oily residue on whatever surfaces I touch. It also smells like toothpaste. I don’t mind the smell so much, but I don’t really want to go around smelling like I rubbed toothpaste on my skin.
FINAL IMPRESSION
The Causebox Spring 2020 Welcome Box is a huge hit! While I don’t plan on using a few of these items for myself, I’m able to put give them away as gifts. Aside from the savings I essentially get by buying through subscription boxes rather than traditional stores, adding to my stockpile of gifts is my favorite thing about being a subscriber. I always have something ready for birthdays and special events!
