This box is for…trying out new products before committing to bigger sizes.
Cost: $10 per month. Find the latest deals and coupons here!
FIRST IMPRESSION
I’m starting to look forward to getting these subscription boxes in the mail! It’s been kinda nice to get something unexpected every month. If you’ve read my other review, you’d know that I’m still relatively new to grooming products beyond bar soap, water, and a good razor. So if you’re already miles ahead of me, you might find this review too basic for your level. But if, like me, you’re still figuring out the difference between serums and moisturizers, let’s learn together, shall we?

ON TO THE ITEMS!
Anthony Shower Sheets
Size: 2 packets (1 sheet per packet) | Full size – 12 pack
RV: $2.67 | Full size – $16
This is honestly the best thing I’ve ever received in the short time I’ve been a subscriber. These kinds of packets are ideal for my lifestyle (or as it was in the Before Times when outdoor trips and activities were a thing). These smell pretty nice, and they do the trick when I need to refresh after a few hours under the sun. I wish my entire May box was just full of these packets.
Billy Jealousy Monsoon Mist Tea Tree Shampoo
Size: 0.5 fl oz | Full size – 8 oz
RV: $1 | Full size – $16
I’ve only been a Birchbox Grooming subscriber for a few months, but this is not the first time they’ve sent a Billy Jealousy product. It kind of makes me wonder just how many men’s brands they actually stock. My girlfriend’s Birchbox Beauty never seems to lean too heavily on any particular brand.
With that being said, I’m not complaining about this shampoo. It smells good, and it feels even better. It’s got peppermint essential oil, which made my scalp feel kinda tingly.
Billy Jealousy Typhoon Tango Tea Tree Conditioner
Size: 0.5 fl oz | Full size – 8 oz
RV: $1 | Full size – $16
Much like the shampoo I got in this box, this conditioner makes my scalp feel clean and tingly. It reminds me of the Paul MItchell Tea Tree conditioner. I like the smell of this Billy Jealousy conditioner a little more, but not by much. A full size of this product (8 oz) is $16, but a bottle of the Paul Mitchell version (10.14 oz) is $15.50, so I think I’ll stick with Paul.
Commodity Goods Bergamot
Size: 2 mL | Full size – 100 mL
RV: $2.40 | Full size – $120
I don’t think I have a cologne like this. I prefer more woody scents, but I’ve never tried a bergamot before. I find myself liking this cologne a lot. It has citrusy top notes with a base of patchouli and blonde musk. It smells fresh and light, and it’s making me want to come out of the cologne woodwork to try out different “scent profiles”. I would wear this more often…if I can get it back from my girlfriend, who loves the smell of bergamot.
Hims Morning Glow Vitamin C Serum
Size: 30 mL
RV: $33
Getting a full-size item in a $10 box is pretty sweet! I’ve tried Hims brand gummy vitamins before, but I was surprised to get a serum from them.
This is an awesome product. It comes out as an orange fluid and kinda smells like Tang powder. That is not a knock on the product, because I really like that smell! It goes on nicely and absorbs into my skin quickly, which is great because I’m always rushing in the morning. It’s an easy product to incorporate into my routine.
FINAL IMPRESSION
The Birchbox Grooming May 2020 box is my favorite box thus far. Mostly because of the shower sheets, but the full-size serum is pretty nice, too. Not that there’s anything wrong with Billy Jealousy, but I hope I don’t see him in my box again for a while. I’m ready to try new brands!
Favorite Item: Anthony Shower Sheets
Highest Value Item: Hims Morning Glow Vitamin C Serum ($33)
THE BREAKDOWN
These are the retail values of the products I received in the Birchbox Grooming May 2020 box:
- Anthony Shower Sheets: $2.67
- Billy Jealousy Monsoon Mist Tea Tree Shampoo: $1
- Billy Jealousy Typhoon Tango Tea Tree Conditioner: $1
- Commodity Goods Bergamot: $2.40
- Hims Morning Glow Vitamin C Serum: $33
Total Value: $40.07! That’s 4x the cost of the box!
At $10 per bag, it’s like I paid $2 per item. I’m okay with this, especially since the serum is full-size.
